PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Ms. Sweeney worked as an attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Administrative Law Judges in Newport News from 2016 to 2017. From 2017 until she joined the firm in 2019, Ms. Sweeney served as Staff Attorney at the Office of Administrative Law Judges.
While earning her law degree, Ms. Sweeney assisted in drafting an amicus brief filed in the Supreme Court of the United States by the Civil Rights Appellate Clinic. She represented clients as a certified legal intern at the Community Law Clinic. She also served as a member of the National Trial Advocacy Team, and as a senior advocate on the Moot Court Board after competing in the Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition.
Ms. Sweeney’s practice focuses on workers’ compensation defense, particularly Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act defense, and insurance defense. She is a member of the Newport News Bar Association, Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association, and the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys.
